I started Napa Valley Horsemanship over 4 years ago with the following objectives in mind:
- Promote positive relationships between horses and riders
-
Advocate for the horse's well-being
-
Start young riders with good horse handling skills and build their abilities & confidence
-
Gather like-minded adults together to share information and become better horsemen
It
has been a great journey and has afforded all of us many happy moments
where we and our horses knowledge grew leaps and bounds. And at times
my horse showed us what real leaps and bounds look like.
My personal experience stems from many years as a backcountry guide and packer in the High Sierra, where doing things efficiently and safely are always the first priority in order to get you, your horse, mules, and guests out of the mountains with great memories.
Having ridden since I was 5 years old, I've seen many different kinds of horses, horse riding, and horse lovers. But I'm convinced that we all want the same "feeling" in our riding, whether you're navigating a cross country course, riding with friends on the beach, or chasing after cows. We want our horses to go along freely and intelligently, without trouble in their mind. It's what Ray Hunt called "turning loose". I am committed to bringing people together who are looking for that feel with the professionals who help bridge our challenges.
